ABOUT UNITED ACADEMY 12/13 MALMÖ, SWEDEN

The teaching at United Academy focuses the Bible, Leadership, and Church Planting – three units that run parallel throughout the year. Each unit is unique: the Bible unit teaches students a revolutionary way to systematically study the Bible and truly understand its message; the Leadership unit gives students the opportunity to create a professional behavioral profile under the guidance of certified DISC instructors; and the Church Planting unit focuses on values and methods needed when growing and establishing churches.

BIBLE
The Bible is not a history book, nor is it a book that is written specifically to you – but it is written for you. In order to understand the Bible, we need to familiarize ourselves with what the texts meant when they were written, so that we can understand the message and apply it to our lives today. At United Academy you will learn a historical grammatical method of Bible study – a great tool for understanding the biblical texts and their message. You will study a number of biblical books based on this method, which will give you new insight and understanding of whom God is and His plan and purpose for your life. In the Bible unit you will also study systematic theology to get a Bible-rooted knowledge of the foundations of faith.

LEADERSHIP
Leadership is crucial for every person’s life and for all church growth. In order to become an inspirational and credible leader who is an example to follow, we must have awareness, training and education. Within the leadership unit, you will create a professional behavioral profile under the guidance of certified DISC instructors. From this profile, you will gain insight into how you relate to others and how you can develop further as an employee and manager. You will also learn time management, communication, coaching, and how to envision, build teams, and reproduce your leadership.

CHURCHPLANTING

Launching new churches has always been essential for the success of the gospel. Church growth is determined by the ability to communicate the gospel to people who are not in the habit of attending a church.  In the church planting unit, you will study church history along with the values and principles that have always been characteristic of emerging churches. The church’s mission and character are conveyed in a clear and compelling way in a discussion called “The Reformission”. Every week, theories are converted into practice as you prepare, perform and participate in any of United’s church services and Connects.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

SERVICE & CONNECT

Each week you will be on a team that produces and implements the service in one of the churches of United Malmö. Here you will have the opportunity to get behind the scenes and become a part of the culture and values that enable a growing church. You will also be part of a Connect Group that meets every week – in homes and cafes – where you share life and have a great time together. After a year at United Academy you will obtain far more than just theoretical knowledge; you will also have personal experience in what it means to build a growing church.

SEMINARS

United Academy’s highly acclaimed seminars are held each week, and are led by a staff member at United. In the seminar groups students study the disciplines in depth through interesting case studies, conversations, and animated discussions.

UNITED OPEN
United Open is an annual leadership conference for church leaders from Scandinavia and Europe. As a student you will gain a valuable and unique experience by participating in the planning and practical preparations for the conference. During the actual implementation you will volunteer for one of the teams creating the conference – an extraordinary experience!

CLASS TRIP
At the beginning of the winter semester the whole class will travel to a beautiful courtyard hotel on the countryside outside of Malmö on a fantastic 24-hour trip.

UNITED TRAINEE
Being a trainee is a unique opportunity during two semesters to come backstage and be a part of our staff and team in their daily work in United Malmö. There are only a few spots. www.united.nu/trainee

SCHEDULE
Monday – Thursday from 08:00am to 1:30pm, in addition you are actively involved in a church service every week (about 4h). If you wish to study half-time contact academy@united.nu

COSTS

All teaching at United Academy is free. However there is a course fee that covers all course books during the year, compendiums, insurance, field trips etc. See www.united.nu / academy for more information..
CSN
United Academy is a full-time education in June Folkhögskola. Thus you as a Scandinavian citizen can apply for student aid or study allowance at CSN (www.csn.se)
